Monthly support for UCS is one of the best ways to fight back. Start your monthly gift to UCS now, and a generous group of donors will kick in a special $100 gift to fight for science. START MY MONTHLY GIFT UCS tote bag Give $16/month or more and receive the eco-friendly UCS tote bag as our thanks! Dear Kapil, Its been a week since the election. Heres where things stand: With a major boost from oil and gas money, politicians who will make it their mission to stall progress on global warming will control both houses of Congress. As Im sure you realize, the timing of this setback couldnt be worse. Powerful new limits on carbon pollution are being rolled out nationwide, and political interference could cripple them. But we have the tools to fight back—and we are. We have a track record of working with both sides of the aisle to achieve progress on climate and clean energy. But to keep it up, we need your help. Were calling on you and at least 100 other UCS supporters to step up your support by starting to make monthly gifts—beginning this week. Will you commit to $10, $15, or $20 per month to make sure we have the resources necessary for the fights ahead? Start your monthly gift now. Monthly giving is the steady, reliable, predictable support we need to counter the actions of more than 150 members of Congress who deny the basic tenets of climate science, and to pressure big corporations to stop funding science denial and do their part to stop global warming.1 Thats the work UCS supporters are known for doing, and its the work well grow together when you join our monthly giving program, Partners for the Earth, by starting your monthly gift: We lead with science. Our nonpartisan, science-based approach that focuses on the local impacts of global warming has had a positive effect all across the country, impressing office holders of both parties. As one example, our work helped convince Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to champion climate adaptation work in New England. And Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) said that when it comes to the facts, he always looks to UCS. We speak to peoples interests. Weve convinced 12 major brands to adopt 100 percent deforestation-free palm oil policies in just the last few months. Our approach works because we talk directly with corporations, showing them how global warming affects their bottom lines. But there are 20 more names on our list that we need to pressure into action. We wont take no for an answer. Thousands of UCS supporters pressured Facebook into dropping support of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a secretive group of corporations and politicians who collaborate to stall progress on renewable energy. To counter the influence of groups like ALEC, our activists are pushing the Securities and Exchange Commission to require more transparency about the dealings of trade groups and business associations. Partners for the Earth help us respond to attacks on science on a moments notice and map out big, bold, strategic campaigns in advance. Like our plan to cut domestic oil use in half in the next 20 years by advancing fuel efficiency, biofuels, and electric vehicle technologies. And our Climate Accountability Campaign, which will use groundbreaking data modeling to put pressure on specific corporations by publicly mapping out the changes in climate they caused through their pollution. Can you start a tax-deductible, monthly gift to the Union of Concerned Scientists to defend science and fund this groundbreaking work? If you start your monthly gift in response to this email, a group of UCS donors will kick in an extra $100 to fight for science in your name. Partners for the Earth are some of our organizations most dedicated supporters. There are more than 6,300 Partners total; 2,200 give automatically each month online. Monthly gifts to UCS start as low as $10, but our average monthly gift is closer to $20. As a new Partner for the Earth, youll be proud of the uncompromising, science-based advocacy and public awareness work youre fueling with your monthly gift. And right now, a group of UCS donors who know just how important Partners are to our work are donating an additional $100 for each new Partner who signs up in response to this message. Please, Kapil, take advantage of this special offer to increase your support for science by starting your monthly gift to UCS and securing a $100 one-time donation in your name. I hope I can count you as our next monthly supporter. With well-financed, climate-denying politicians in Congress and in state houses across the country, defenders of science need all the help they can get.
