as I sit im my front yard topless tanned missin land , I long to rise with my Lounge Lizard clan & watch the sisters makin their way to treeline to grab a shuttle to take them to downtown as they will find a wonderful working womyn run town as they go down the dirt road 5 miles a hour as all the camp sites are like the out skirts of our land town.... though for me this year I stayed close to RV working on my land display ,listening to wonderful wafting through the trees sharing the down town magic through her leaves... those sounds comforted me ... the wimmin ,girls that walk,talk share ,laugh & cry...all heal me in a way no other place heals... walkin those chipped paths with my bare feet I release the off land pains that kill my spirt dull my soul & dampin my womon ways.... this week in the woods isnt about parties zones,or pantie checks its about healing our one on one sister spirts ... this inner flow that keeps our womyns self going year after year... michfest is the place where I can let down those walls of place a healing balm on my whole self ,my whol community ,my own clan... this festival is a fest of the soul fest of the spirit fest of community fest of unity,fest of diffrences fest that is more tan a fest it refreshes ,revives ,re builds, re shares ,re connecets & in those re connections we change grow, learn play ,work, thrive ,heal from the death of our loved ones & get active in those that will follow in our foot steps I have been blessed to have leaved on wimmins land in the late 90s & be a land care taker & a worker of that land /festival...those years gave me the bonding not only to my Herstory ,but to my womons culture,wimmins talents & the power we as wimmn have as a one on one or as a group... though michfest is MORE than that more than other womyns festivals because we have to build ,work, learn,change & grow together EVERY YEAR for 39 years... many of the main stream things we take for granted started out of the need for womyn only space... the need for sisterhood ,the need for community ... had those sisters before me Not stood up paved way ...I wouldnt have this HEALING TODAY... if you havent ever seen Radical Harmmonies then do so this film will help you build a herstory time line of these gift that were built out of the need for safe sister spaces... then order Michigan Fever from michfest & get a glimps of the smiling happy sisters who make the trek to land... or read Eden Built by Eves: The Culture of Womens Music Festivals by Bonnie J. Morris & see the issues these same sisters battled while we were still watchin Facts Of Life trying to come to terms of our own sub text teen age lives.... right before fest I got 2 calls 1 from a str8 woman needing help & then a trans woman who was having a crisis I took time out of leaving for michfest & I gave them both help ...& both wimmin ask when I was going to my festival & wished me safe travel & lots of fun... so I can tell you michfest has made me a better off land community builder ,womyns supporter & has given me the words & wisdom to help my sisters who come into my life with word,actions & help that I was taught on the michfest land..... these lessons of community build isnt taught through our major orgs that send ya a free pr sticker in the mail, our grass roots womyns herstory isnt being taught in the main stream class rooms & our sisterhood has lost fest after fest ,book store after womyns book store leaving us the boy themed bars tha are dark loud & really dont serve our communal needs as wimmin... this to me is sad ... because that means lesbian herstory only has a shelf life of 40 years so the IMPORTANCE OF MICHIGAN WOMYNS MUSIC FESTIVIAL....IS not just Important to Wimmin who believe in WBW space its IMPORTANT TO OUR MAIN STREAM CULTURE... the orgs that are attacking the festival if they look into their OWN HERSTORY they will see that the workshops,work shifts & the tools of community building in their own homes came from our michfest land HOME... so since challenges are big I challenge each of you to stop, research out rainbow past & see who the SISTERS were who pave the way you live out loud & freeer than they did when 39 years ago there wasnt anything or not much to take pride in in being LESBIAN or Womyn in fact... as for the Todays issue I offer myself as one who would be willing to help Trans sisters build a festival of your own...I may not be the greatest community builder though you can ask my sisters ...I am a great worker & would work hard to help Trans sisters build a Magical safe space so you to can heal from these day today pains.... if you wish to enjoy womyns culture Now then I invite you to visit space like National womans fest & Ohio womyns fest these festivals welcome you into their homes so you can become part of our womons culture .... by supporting these Trans Welcoming fest you will find feel & know what it means to be Home.... for me this would show me Our trans sisters are making steps to heal this divide... that has been often time man made not so much by our inner culture though by the images we see in the media /movies... so its up to us to mend ,heal ,change & grown in to the Sister Nation We are meant to be.... as for those of us who love,support our safe sister space its time we get off our hands & Rise...our main festival trans issue should be TRANSPORTATION... the fest needs to know we CARE ,WE HEAR ,WE SEE ,WE ACT SO WE CAN GROW... this will revive fest in a way that will help heal the hearts of those who work 365 making this safe magical space safe happy & where we can lay our burdens down...... so I ask each of you to stop ponder & listen learn our herstory & give thanks where thanks is do & many time that road of thanks leads right back to michfest.... so lets all remember you are loved & never alone that you are a light unto the world so be bright & shine... (as I stood in the store getting milk & chips this song came over the speaker & as I looked around I saw the store colors are Red & my mind flashed to opening night & the tears rolled down my newly back from land heart opend up right there in the line .... the POWER OF THIS WOMYN BORN WOMYN SPACE has given me a life that is filled with Wonder & I know where to go when my sister heart hurts with my off land life... so sisters gather your skirts as we have heard from the stage & circle around & know you are loved & in this circle of love we will THRIVE.... so this is the Summer of Love...
