as a child I used to bite my fingernails and my mam put mustard or bitter aloes on the thumb to stop me sucking it. Do you have any memories of this or others things like bed wetting? It was such a punitive childhood. Any perceived naughtiness by me and I was told to go to my room and be still and think about what I had said or done. then to go downstairs and apologise! My mum was brainwashed by the Plymouth Brethen ( a separate cultish branch of the church of england and wasnt allowed to sit near men in he church, nor wear any lipstick or make up… The heaviness in the home was palpable. I never felt safe.
