as usual, just trying to balance your newsfeed cause nobody else will.... because I like looking stuff up, it turns out that the Ft. Lauderdale Womans Club had made several formal complaints about the homeless people congregating by their establishment to wait for food. trash, urine and feces left on their property and porch afterwards on the regular evidently bothered them after a while. so, the new ordinance requires the homeless to be fed indoors with adequate access to a toilet. turns out, peeps will bring in a stray cat but not stray people. (hypocrisy?....perhaps.) those feeding homeless in the park, including 90 year old Mr. Abbott were also given alternate recommendations by the police for nearby areas for distributing the food, but were flatly ignored. also, none of the memes or bias articles on social media mentioned any efforts to help the homeless. just so you know.... But Fort Lauderdale and a few other cities in Florida, including Orlando, are moving beyond a mostly punitive approach. Recognizing that the homeless cannot simply be pushed out of sight, they are increasing funding for low-cost housing and providing more services. Among other things, Fort Lauderdale has a large homeless assistance center offering 230 beds for short-term stays and a variety of services. It is part of a national network participating in Housing First, a program that seeks to find homeless people permanent housing as soon as possible. “We have one of the most comprehensive policies of any city,” Mr. Seiler said.
