at Sunday, September 22, 2013 0 Comments Daily Manna: Grace For Purposeful Ministry Sunday 22, September 2013 TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 6:1-10 KEY VERSE: “We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain” (2 Corinthians 6:1). A renowned sportsman got entangled with an immoral dealing which was inconsistent with his global status. He realized in good time that to get back to his hitherto elevated position, he needed a large dose of self-discipline, determination and self-denial. These done, he rode back to the prime position, refusing as it were, to be dwarfed by the jeers and ridicule of others. The Christian worker, minister or pastor is likened to an athlete, a sportsman who, to maintain his relationship with God and win the prize of his high calling, must remain committed to Christ. In the course of his journey, Apostle Paul spoke about his trials (verses 4,5), about divine provision (verses 6,7) and about his eventual victory over negative circumstances (verses 8-10). In other words, he was tried, tempted, persecuted. But at every point, he enjoyed divine support. In all situations, he did not compromise the standard of God’s word. As it was in Paul’s day, so it is today. The world is not waiting to receive Christ with open arms. Persecutions of Christian believers is increasing in intensity. Worshippers are wantonly killed in their places of fellowship. There is no better time for a more steadfast walk with the Lord than now. We should not relent or succumb; otherwise, we would have received the grace of God and call to service in vain. Do we see in Apostle Paul a pattern and a model? The Lord will not forget our labour of love. Like the athlete, we must refuse to succumb to earthly and destructive pastimes.
