attended the wake of a friend this evening, and in all honesty I - TopicsExpress

attended the wake of a friend this evening, and in all honesty I use the term friend in that sentence very loosely. We never specifically sought each other out for companionship or for something to do. We had many of the same friends and associates and frequently ended up in the same places/situations. When I heard the news of his passing my thoughts were simply He was a great guy. It was much too soon., etc. I attended the wake because I thought the guy was pretty awesome and I knew some people would be there that I havent seen in a while would be there and I like to be a shoulder for people if they need one. When talking to people and looking over all of the pictures lots of memories of good times came back, and when remembering them it was easy to note that when this person was present it made the event/situation/place a better one. Thats some pretty powerful shit. When you (I) go through life we always seem to think of those who we are specifically closest to, but going to this wake made me realize that just by being a good person who embraces all those around you, smiling, and bringing an enthusiasm that contagious to all those around you you make an enormous impact on the world. So thank you, Gerry Diaz for being one of those people. Even cynical bastards like me, whom you were never all that close with gained a lot from you being in our lives, no matter how secondary it seemed at the times. You will be greatly missed. You were one of the good ones, and it was far too soon.
