authors: Some might attribute your position at Andersen to luck. vanselow: Luck favors the prepared! So, again, thinking about my time at Andersen—we would have slow times. Instead of sitting and coasting during the slow time or having chats with guys in the office, I volunteered myself to work in tax and consulting, because I don’t believe I’m being paid to sit around and also because I had an interest in broadening my knowledge. Had I not done that, I would not have come across BHP at all. I could have just sat around, picked up the phone, or played around with my coworkers, because in the off-peaks nobody really cared what you did. But I felt extreme guilt if I was not adding something and justifying being there. Doing the minimum or what is expected is not enough.
