b. George Adams, c.1975, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Adams is a celebrated dancer, comedian, contortionist, actor, model, rapper, and all round entertainer. His endeavours are all the more amazing owing to the obstacles he has faced since childhood. It was during his formative years that osteomyelitis left him crippled from infancy through to his teens. Following a series of hospital visits, his consultant considered amputating his left leg. Fortunately Adams overcame his disability when he emulated the dance steps of artists such as Michael Jackson and Sammy Davis Jnr. . He discovered that these rhythmical moves helped his co-ordination and soon found fame in the dancehall as Bruk Up, a callous but inoffensive reference to his adversity. In the dancehall he began to demonstrate his dancing ability and with a comedic twist to his moves he introduced the Bruk Up dance. Having successfully instigated new moves his followers demanded more innovative dance steps, which resulted in the Crab Butterfly and The Mister Bean. In the Jamaican capital he was an instant hit and supported artists such as Major Mackerel, Buju Banton and Beenie Man. He appeared in a number of videos performing alongside artists including Patra, Snagga Puss, and Freddie McGregor. At a Kingston concert performed by Doug E. Fresh And The Get Fresh Crew, Adams jumped on stage and demonstrated his moves. The response from the crowd inspired an invite to the USA where he found fame alongside some of hip-hop’s most celebrated performers including Wyclef Jean. The singer/rapper enrolled Adams to perform on his video for ‘Gone Till November’. This led to work on the promo for Busta Rhymes’ ‘Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See’. Adams recorded ‘Who Got The Brand New Dance’ in Jamaica, which led to unreleased sessions in Los Angeles commissioned by the Warner Brothers Records /Qwest partnership. While on his jaunt he also modelled for a number of US-based designers. He has since performed at Reggae Sunsplash and Sting as well as supporting Beenie Man at the West Indies Parade. His official US debut, ‘I Like It’, featured support from Traedonya Chequelle and Germain Allan for the seven-track release that included a ‘Brukapella’ mix, which proved particularly popular in New York. Adams is a well-respected performer in Jamaica and, as with the poliomyelitis survivors Israel Vibration, proved that disabilities should not and do not hold back genuine talent.
