bbc/news/world-asia-18122929 What a wonderful and joyful archery event! So many questions…I suspect that bow is buffalo horn (rather than deer as the reporter stated) but it seems to be without any supporting sinew or wooden core. What draw weight would be possible with such a bow, without the risk of it shattering? What enormous fun that clay target is!!! I want one. I can see the point of the disc arrowhead, which is specifically for shooting at that target. However I am utterly perplexed by the arrows. Many archery cultures around the world - particularly in Africa, Central and Southern America - use very long arrows like this but they are nearly always associated with dense forest. In such a context, the length of the arrow allows the archer to feed it through the undergrowth, which is useful for ambushing animals when hunting. Another application is in bow fishing, where the top part of the arrow can be inserted in the water, thus obviating against the optical effects of refraction. What, however, is the purpose of using such long arrows to shoot at an elevated target in the open??? I would also like to know if the all digit draw is traditional or simply modern practitioners struggling with draw weights beyond their training?
