bertsbasket of memories (C.D. Culpeper a friend to remember ) I was just a young girl living at my grandmother viola reeves willis home . aunt mattie hiot and their daughter margaret lived unstairs in a small apartment . I loved going up stairs with them Margaret would let me beat the cakes. she cooked pound cakes and let me lick the bowl . she told me later in life it helped her get the cake real creamy . aunt mattie spoiled me and saved me from many whippings she would take me upstairs stand at the top of the stairs and tell any one who wanted to whip me this child has no daddy I told that story to my dad later in my life and he said I wish I could thank her . but this child called Roberta was a very bad child and poor margaret caught the blunt of my chidish ways more than once but this story is about cd and I remember the first date margaret had with cd oh my the whole house so excited and even me as this dark haired handsome man showed up in a car that was really nice car . many dates later they were married and that marriage produce 6 children yes 5 girls one boy so the culpeper family is our family . I wanted to add this I was a small girl but I remember aunt mattie beamng saying that young man has the best manners he never put his shoes on my ottoman he sat as he should with his legs over the ottoman his shoes over the end . you asked how I remember this I have an extradonary memory ask all who reads my bertsbasket I will add this too margaret was a beautiful woman she won many beauty pagents and truly if her family had money she would have made ms sc or ms America she was that beautiful an she passed it on to beautifull daughters and a handsome son .cd was so proud of his wife and family . post script I wanted also to say when I got married my late husband Kermit told me his first job was at the lumber yard with cd ernest lee culpepper and he would often say those culpepper boys they could argue and then they could laugh it off. he said it was never dull working for them both and he always admire them . written july 8th 2013 for Debbie culpepper
