besigye and company should just concentrate on their businesses and allow mzee lead his cattle in peace or else we shall teargas them until they surrender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4GC activists launch fresh protests against new taxes Kampala Opposition pressure group For God and My Country(4GC) will today launch a new phase of protests against the tax increments introduced in the 2013/14 Budget, insisting that Ugandans “should not pay taxes for the thieves.” Last month, Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka announced a raft of taxes on essentials such as water and kerosene to plug a budget deficit worsened by a freeze on donor funding. This was as a result of abuse of Shs50 billion of donor money in the Office of the Prime Minister discovered last year. Mr Mathias Mpuuga, the national coordinator of 4GC and Masaka Municipality MP, told journalists at the weekend that the balancing act being mooted by the ruling regime was “shameless and inconsiderate”, while sending out a clarion call to “right-thinking people” to oppose the increments. Police disagree But even as the group was planning to launch the protests, police expressed their disapproval, declaring that the Force had “intelligence information” pointing to mischief on the side of the opposition leaders. However, Mr Mpuuga insisted that the group, although outlawed by the Attorney General in May last year, will not be cowed by the police’s declarations. “Since the partisan police is on rampage to stop citizens peacefully protesting against the unacceptable government policies and actions, we shall use our creative ways of letting our people know of the specific ways and actions to protest,” Mr Mpuga said. In a statement released a day after the protests were announced, Ms Judith Nabakoba, the police spokesperson indicated that the opposition leaders were mobilising people in Kisekka, Owino, and Nakasero markets to engage in “criminal acts including burning vehicles and police units”. “We have not received any formal communication from the organisers of these demonstrations and processions to plan for their security and traffic management in the routes they are to use. There is also a threat of ADF impenetration who can use the opportunity to cause terror acts on our unsuspecting public,” the statement added.
