Once again bin 312 will also be serving Thanksgiving-inspired fare to help you in your decision making. Newport Vineyards Riesling, 2013, Rhode Island $14.99 We love supporting local businesses. However when it comes to wine, our local vineyards are held to the same standards as any of the more established wine regions around the world. So we are pleased to pour this local gem this Thursday. Recently Newport Vineyard’s Riesling won BEST OF SHOW out of 458 entries at the Atlantic Wine Competition. On the nose you will enjoy pretty floral aromas. The palate is semi-dry with rich melon and mineral flavors leading to a refreshing finish. Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly 2013, France $25.99 This is beautiful Gamay was one of our favorite wines last holiday season. Brouilly is one of ten Cru Beaujolais. Cru Beaujolais is the highest classification in the region. Do not confuse Cru Beaujolais with Beaujolais Nouveau which are although fun, at best are fruity and simple. Cru Beaujolais are medium bodied, elegant, age worthy and can rival many of the wines just to the north of Burgundy. According to Wine Berserkers, “This wine would still be a great value at $70 per bottle”. Honoro Vera Merlot, Jumilla, Spain $13.99 Here is another fantastic wine from Bodegas Juan Gil. Their 100% Monastrell is a huge seller in our Tonight’s Wine Section. This wine is every bit as good. Merlot is not the easiest varietal to get people excited about. Too many soft, flabby, simple examples soured palates many years ago. Here is a wine that is downright surprising. There is fruit, structure and a finish that defies logic when you consider this Spanish beauty is less than $14. This wine delivers astonishing value. 2009 Finca Flichman Tupungato ($19.99; suggested: $24.99) Argentina Finca Flichman has been making fine wines in Argentina for just over 100 years. Tupungato is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot aged for 12 months in French and American oak. You’ll find bright red fruits (cherries and currants) on the nose. The taste will echo those notes and get added complexity of spices and flowers. The finish is smooth and refined. This is a fairly big wine that would work well on your Thanksgiving table, particularly if your stuffing has big flavors.
