bit.ly/16FmVmn It is “High Noon” in Japan! In his current remarks, Aso is clearly clothed in the wrong color! Aso’s remarks reported in the Guardian are the economic equivalent of Osaka Mayor Hashimoto’s gaffes of last month- the same ones that saved him a sojourn to San Francisco and New York. As a prominent member of the Abe Administration, Mr. Aso should clarify his remarks in all candor. Aso should dwell upon the disaster of an Economic Conference several years ago, in New York City. The Japanese delegation arrived armed with virtually no English Skills! The “handlers” skillfully scripted it when to applaud the remarks of the Chinese Delegation. The Chinese Delegation had distributed a full text of its remarks to all the participants, of course, in English! Armed with savvy conference intelligence, the Chinese delegation knew exactly what points during its presentations that the Japanese delegation had been coached to “applaud”. The Chinese skillfully overhauled its game plan. Rather than commending the contributions of Japanese economic investment in Asia (at applause points) it condemned Japanese economic policies as a repetition of its “wartime imperialistic march upon Asia”. It hammered this point over and over again in varying semantic and linguistic thrusts, all in English- all passionately presented and audaciously delivered. And yes, it did not distribute the changes in script presentation to the Japanese delegation. To the amused howls of the normally conservatively demeaned audience, Japanese members of the economic conference clapped energetically each time the “applause points” arrived- only the “applause points” had been altered to the “peak passion points” of the newly scripted Anti-Japanese Presentation. By not knowing English, and by faithfully following the scripted “administrative guidance” of its myopic strategy, the Japanese delegation was indeed “outstanding”! Only the Japanese delegation in attendance did not know English. Only the Japanese delegation deemed it acceptable in a dynamic global economy and to be devoid of the skills that its Chinese commanded each member of its delegation to bring to the table. And yes, only the Japanese delegation earned the amused derision of others in attendance, in particular Asians!! The only polite participants in view of this debacle, were, yes, you guessed it- the conference hosts, the Americans. In considering this, Aso may wish to read some Greek Classics that cast the tangled web that such “hubris” or excessive arrogance creates. As the only part American owned boutique training and consulting company in Tokyo, presently, KK World Without Borders is providing the initiative, inspiration and skills to help budding and current Japanese leaders to help themselves. Japan is at a crossroads. It is “High Noon” in Japan! In his current remarks, Aso is clearly clothed in the wrong color!
