bit.ly/16FmVmn It is “High Noon” in Japan! In his current remarks, reported in the Guardian, Aso is clearly clothed in the wrong color! Aso’s Guardian gaffes are the economic equivalent of Osaka Mayor Hashimoto’s last month- the same slips that saved him a sojourn to San Francisco and New York. As a prominent member of the Abe Administration, Mr. Aso should clarify his remarks in all candor, and then retract them! In so preparing, Aso should dwell upon the disaster of an Economic Conference several years ago, in New York City. The meeting focused upon Asia but had global representation. . The Chinese Delegation had distributed a full text of its remarks to all the participants, of course, in English! The Japanese delegation arrived armed with virtually no English Skills! The usual “Japanese “handlers” had scripted when to applaud the remarks of the Chinese. Armed with savvy conference intelligence, the Chinese delegation knew exactly what points during its presentations the Japanese delegation had been coached to “applaud”. The Chinese then skillfully overhauled their game plan. Rather than commending the contributions of Japanese economic investment in Asia (at applause points) the Chinese condemned Japanese economic policies as a repetition of its “wartime imperialistic march upon Asia”. The Chinese delegation hammered this point over and over again in varying semantic and linguistic thrusts, all in English- all passionately presented and audaciously delivered. And yes, Chinese Delegation did not distribute the changes in script presentation to the Japanese delegation in advance! To the amused howls of the audience, Japanese members of the economic conference clapped energetically each time the “applause points” were presented- only the “applause points” had been altered to the “peak passion points” of the newly scripted Anti-Japanese Presentation. By not knowing English, and by faithfully following the scripted “administrative guidance” of its myopic strategy, the Japanese delegation was indeed “outstanding”! The Conference erupted!! Ultimately the Conference confirmed the stereotypical “uniqueness” of Japan that Aso is so smattered with! Only the Japanese delegation in attendance did not know English. Only the Japanese delegation deemed it acceptable, in a dynamic global economy, to be devoid of the English skills that its Chinese counterpart commanded each member of its delegation to bring to the table. And yes, only the Japanese delegation earned the amused derision of others in attendance, in particular Asians!! The only polite participants in this debacle, were, yes, you guessed it- the conference hosts, the Americans. In summary, a telling tale for Aso!! He should read some Greek Classics that cast the tangled web that such “hubris” or excessive arrogance creates. As the only part American owned boutique training and consulting company in Tokyo, presently, KK World Without Borders is providing the initiative, inspiration and skills to help budding and current Japanese leaders to help themselves. Japan is at a crossroads. It is “High Noon” in Japan! In his current remarks, Aso is clearly clothed in the wrong color! He feels he is fashionable? Think again! For Japan’s welfare, he needs to don different duds, and fast!!
