bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/severe.shtml SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for damaging winds and heavy rain for people in the Lower West, South West, South Coastal and Great Southern forecast districts Issued at 12:52 pm WST on Thursday 28 August 2014. For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Lancelin to Northam to Lake Grace to Bremer Bay. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Perth Metropolitan area, Mandurah, York, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Narrogin, Katanning and Albany. Weather Situation A slow moving cold front will move through southwest parts of the state from Thursday evening through to Friday afternoon. The front is likely to produce HEAVY RAINFALL that may cause FLASH FLOODING. Rainfall from this front is expected to be heavier than normal. In isolated areas there is also the risk that thunderstorms with DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. The heavy rainfall is expected to develop in the Southwest District from 8pm Thursday evening and will extend to the Perth Metropolitan area by 8am Friday morning. This is typical weather for this time of the year but rainfall is expected to be heavier than normal. Heavy rainfall and damaging winds may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture. Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit. Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area. Move vehicles under cover. Boat owners should securely moor their boats. Campers should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm WST Thursday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus web site at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 213. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly. #wawg #waweather
