The current Bulimba Library building has served the local community well over the past 30 years. While the current library is still a great place to be, it’s time to consider the future of the Bulimba Library and how we can ensure it continues to be a fabulous facility that can serve the needs of local residents into the future. It is time for Council to seriously consider a major investment to upgrade the Bulimba Library in the short to medium term (3-5 years). There are a range of issues with the current Bulimba Library that could be addressed as part of an upgrade, including internal and external functionality and design and the establishment of a new covered/shaded community space where the existing courtyard area is located. Activating the existing underutilised parcel of Council-owned land next to the Library should also be considered. The petitioners call on Brisbane City Council to fund a review of the Bulimba Library that includes a redesign and upgrade of the current facilities in consultation with the local community and Morningside Ward Councillor, Councillor Shayne Sutton. The review and redesign should include improvements to the existing internal and external functionality and design, the establishment of a new covered/shaded community space where the existing courtyard area is located and consideration of the possibility of activating the existing underutilised parcel of Council-owned land next to the Library.
