Adding muscle increases your resting metabolic rate 24 hours a day so is a more efficient option than cardio. You dont have to add much and it doesnt take up a lot of space so dont worry about bulking up. This is at the core (pun intended) of Pilates effectiveness: more efficient option than cardio.
