#cbcmar Good evening. Ill keep this write up short and sweet or else Ill just be typing everything Ive gone over in the attached webcast below. On Thursday and Friday we are going to be impacted by the same weather system that has brought flooding rains to the northeastern US and parts of Ontario and Quebec. There are two main things I want to touch on with this system 1) the timing and 2) the rainfall amounts. Both of these have been tricky to deal with in the forecast. Lets start with the timing. This a slow mover. It will take the better part of Thursday and Friday for this system to begin to clear the Maritimes. That said it wont be rain for everyone on both of those days. On Thursday most of the wet weather will be seen in the southwest of Nova Scotia and the western half of New Brunswick. On Friday the band of showers/downpours shifts to eastern New Brunswick, PEI, and the eastern half of Nova Scotia (Halifax and east approximately). You can check out the attached system maps with this post to get a visual of this. Now on to the rainfall amounts. Very, very tricky to try and nail down with this system. Within the general area of rain and shower are some heavier localized downpours. Because these downpours are so slow to move through, areas under them in the US have seen some absurd rainfall totals (300+ mm at Islip Airport in NY!). I dont expect the same severity as what they saw in the US, but some localized flooding is possible here in the Maritimes. Areas at risk of seeing some of the higher rainfall amounts (30 to 50+ mm) include most of New Brunswick and the southwest of Nova Scotia. As the system moves east on Friday it weakens and the rainfall will become lighter as a result. This unfortunately means some of the drier areas in PEI and eastern Nova Scotia may only see 5-15 mm of rain. For more on this wet weather including a detailed look at the timeline and what some forecast model guidance is indicating for rainfall totals check the webcast linked below. cbc.ca: cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/NS/ID/2488103975/ Youtube: https://youtube/watch?v=ksxpJm8-tys&feature=youtu.be
