cityofpasadena.net Engineering Aide City of Pasadena - Pasadena, CA The City of Pasadena is currently seeking an industrious, committed, and skilled Engineering Aide for our Transportation Department team of professionals. The ideal candidate for this position is AUTOCAD and GIS-proficient, and preferably has a background in Transportation Engineering. Under supervision, performs moderate to routine engineering related work such as drafting of maps and plans; assists in making field surveys; performs technical office work involving sub-professional engineering knowledge to make simple computations while providing assistance at the general counter; and performs related duties within the area of assignment. NOTE: This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other departments such as Public Works and Water and Power, however, the current opening is in Transportation. Essential Functions: Performs routine drafting of maps and plans; assists in field inspections to compare plans with physical condition and assure contract compliance; assists in making field surveys and prepares related plans; researches and responds to questions from the general public regarding department engineering information; provides assistance at the public counter; performs simple computations; and prepares narrative and quantitative reports. When assigned to Transportation Performs computer aided drafting to generate traffic work orders, channelization, parking plans, maps, layouts condition diagrams and related projects. Assists in making field measurements, data collection, conducting traffic studies such as speed surveys, ball bank studies, traffic volume counts and prepares related plans. Conducts field assessment for placement of replacement of traffic control devices such as signs and curb markings. Responds to questions from the general public regarding traffic engineering information such as traffic counts, truck routes, programs, regulations and construction permits. Prepares maps and conducts special analysis using GIS software. When assigned to Public Works Performs computer aided drafting of design plans for various infrastructure improvements, including streets, sewer distribution lines, storm drain systems, street lighting, traffic signals, fiber optic communication systems and related projects; plots simple maps from topographic survey notes; assists in computing grades; reducing cross-section notes; plotting profiles and drawing alignments; measures distances; assists survey crew in obtaining elevations, driving stakes, setting monuments and benchmarks; assists in reviewing private development plans; assists customers and issues permits at permit counter. When assigned to Water and Power (Electrical) Performs computer aided drafting of design for power systems including underground and overhead distribution systems, generating plants, switching stations and substations; draws wiring diagrams, schematics, instrument, control and relay panel layouts, lighting layouts and conduit layouts; prepares material list of equipment to be purchases; and maintains electric system records; performs computer data entry. When assigned to Water and Power (Water) Performs computer aided drafting of design for water distribution lines, water pumps and water storage facilities; compiles records, reads drawings, and makes measurements pertaining to the water system; performs routine inspections of water facilities, such as tunnel, pipelines, tanks and pumping plants; reviews building plans for water services and cross connection compliance; assists in water analyses at the water quality laboratory; researches and responds to questions from the general public regarding water quality and water supply; prepares water quality and water supply reports. Qualification Guidelines: Education and/or Experience Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. For example: A High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in computer aided drafting, general engineering work or experience as a helper in an engineering office within the survey party field.
