color. color. COLOR!!! i am rolling in it. flopping about. excessive. lurid. dirty. dangerous. i love the scene in Cabaret where Sally Bowles ( Liza Minnelli) shows off her emerald green fingernail polish....Divine Decadence...shocking!! ...There is something outlaw about bright color. the first painters i really became enamored with after Van Gogh and Matisse, were the german expressionists.. especially Kirchner. i love kirchner. His work is still so radical.. the color so pushed and garish and keyed up and decadent. outside of society. the feel of a sleazy leather bar.i see myself as a young punk rocker dying my hair bright neon red (manic panik)... feeling like i was creating my own world. walking down the street in north long beach..walking to the thrift store with my red mohawk and a toy airplane around my neck.. a car pulls over and a couple guys jump out and beat me up. This week a new exhibition opens at LACMA title Expressionism in Germany and France: From Van Gogh to Kandinsky. exciting! cant wait! there will be several fantastic Kirchners and as an added bonus David Ross, my honey, did the exhibition design (Fred fisher and partners architects). The galleries are painted black and blue. the work feels dangerous. the colors just vibrate .
