common mistakes we makes as we learn Mistake #1: Word Order Problem: While most beginners do well with basic Korean sentence structure (first the subject, then the object, then the verb), its common to find mistakes in longer sentences. This is especially common with sentences using multiple adjectives and adverbs, along with other details such as the date and time. Solution: Fortunately, word order follows rules (most of the time). These rules can be learned like anything else and reviewed quickly. Its important to practice making sentences as often as you can while learning Korean (especially when learning a new concept) so that youll be used to putting the words together in the right order. Mistake #2: Particles Problem: Particles can be learned in a short amount of time, but require a lot of time to master (since they dont translate easily to English). Solution: Practice and review. Practicing is important, but its important to keep reviewing too. These particles will get much easier over time. Mistake #3: Politeness Levels Problem: Korean politeness levels can be complicated, as there are several kinds, and each must be used in the appropriate situation. In addition to casual speech and the common 요 form, theres also the more polite 니다 form, and honorific speech. Solution: Koreans know their language is difficult and wont expect you to be a master of these forms in the beginning. However, once were able to hold a conversation, well be expected to know how to use each of these forms properly. Dont stress about these the first time that you see them (everyone will face the same challenge), but know that they are necessary in order to speak Korean above a beginner level, and know that they can be learned with simple practice and review. Again, as beginners, we wont be expected to know everything perfectly, and Koreans are extremely forgiving and helpful toward people learning their language. By the time weve learned all of the basics, we can always go back to learn and re-learn these concepts. All about Korea and Korean 화이팅 (Hwaiting)
