#comparative #translation is a funny sport for us nerds, it also provides insight into national perceptions. Lets for example take a word looser (på dansk en taber). Litterally, it means someone who looses, say, in a battle. The Russian version is неудачник, in literal translation, the one who has #no #luck, who only has #misfortune. This says a lot about #worldview shared over eleven time zones. While in Europe, you fight/work/do to gain #success, here to the right from Europe by the map, it is all about luck. The #Russian #concept of success is best defined by the saying Шел-шел и копеечку нашел (Down the road found a coin).
