completely and totally exhausted ....... Dad woke up at 12:30 am. I had been in bed for 30 minutes. He tricked me into getting him up to go to the bathroom...and then marched right past the door and to the top of the stairs. He was determined to get down the steps and out the door.....He is quite a strong man, and even more so when in this state, but I managed to safely pull him off balance and ease him onto the carpeted floor. I pulled him by his feet back down the hallway and into his room, but there was no way I was getting him back into bed. 3 local police came to help. They pulled him up to stand, but it took all 4 of us to gently get him back into bed and the rails up. I had forced 1 small dose of Haldol into him while he was on the floor, and with direction from the hospice team on the phone, with dad yelling at the top of his lungs in the background, I gave 3 more larges doses in 30 minute increments. To give a dose, I had to wrestle Dads arms down and lay over him, pinning his arms between us, then reach for the syringe, force his lips open and hopefully get it all into his mouth. 4:00 am I finally went to lay down and slept a few minutes. Checked Dad again at 5:00 am and he was still laying there wide awake. Not struggling to get up anymore, but not sleeping either. After sleeping fitfully myself, with terrible dreams, I got up at 9am. Dad slept a little bit finally and woke at 10 am. This morning he is back to his pleasant, cheerful, cooperative sweet self. It is a rainy, chilly day today. I hope Dad rests in his chair today so I can take a nap.
