contemplating body cathexis in contemporary yoga culture - the investment of our attitudes and emotions in our body, related to our bodily identity and the superficial and deep transformations and translations of selfhood that occur when we "change" through shifting our relationship with our body. How transparent are we becoming through our practice? How much does the inherent physicality of modern postural practice contribute to, mask, or fashion our attitudes toward our own bodies and allow for the whole character of our self to emerge? Is their a core, whole or intrinsic experience of selfhood that is being obstructed if we expend so much energy in polishing our physique in the culture of fitness? Do we invest hours each day, each week, to make us less vulnerable to or even alienate us from the reality of pesonal pain, or how we felt about our bodily identity, or is our embodiment practice really about extending the vitality of our deep selfhood to all parts, in a manner of integration? If so, how much time and energy is personally relevant to processes of growth and actualization is working the body of food, of the flesh?
