content: institutionalized/systematic white supremacism Regarding the jury decision to acquit George Zimmerman for murdering Trayvon Martin: [NOTE: It needs to be recognized that George Zimmerman is a Brown man who has internalized the tenets of white supremacism because of his light skinned privilege.] The decision made by the jury reveals a gaping hole in the [white] criminal justice system of the US and Canada in how legislation and police/prosecutrial/judge/jury decisions all come together to further perpetuate white supremacism in the US and Canada. We need to remember that most legislation is drawn up by people who benefit from white supremacism. Cops/prosecutors/judges/juries who make these decisions do benefit from or have internalized the tenets of white supremacism. Ultimately, however, anti-black racism is what the capitalistic system of White supremacism is existentally dependent on in order to further its aims of capitalistic profit. This is why slavery happened - capitalism - and why Black people - particularly Black men - are being imprisoned longer than White people. Private prisons exist in Canada and the USA and long prison terms = more money for corporations.
