copied from my dear friend Maria Mhandires wall. I dont have much to add except to say. Agreed 200%. What do you say on this my friends, Maria Mhandire l have observed a disturbing and growing tendency amongst African parents specifically middle class / upper middle class. Whilst sending kids to private or international schools is good for the higher quality of education and the multi- cultural approach to learning and social skills, it is important not to negate our own culture or basic manners and life skills. Some parents even take pride that their kids do not speak their native language, dont know or acknowledge extended family or dont know their home village!! Seriously? High school age teenagers who cant make their own beds, or wash a plate and parents are cool with it because they have domestic help. Im not a parenting expert but from my experience the outcome of this approach often ends up with bad results. lt often breeds ill disciplined snobs with a high sense of entitlement and no sense of responsibility even towards the very parents who spoilt them. #Not all convenient or seemingly good things are expedient#
