couldn’t breathe, I pulled my head back. “Does that answer your question?” I asked. “It sure does,” he said, pulling me to his lips again. I tried pushing him toward the bed as he kissed me. “What are you doing?” he asked, kissing my neck. “Trying to get to the bed, do you object?” I said, pushing him softly. “That depends,” he said, pushing against me. “On what? I asked, still trying to lead him to the bed. “Can you remember why you fell in love with me?” he said stopping me. I closed my eyes. I never knew what to say when Cory would ask me that question. I couldn’t remember where or how I had fallen in love with him, I just knew I loved him. Cory believed this simple little thing is what stood between us. It was the reason my hair was so straight and neat. A witch’s hair would become tangled and knotted whenever she was in love. It was a mark of love to show others she was taken and in love. But I had told him it was because I had lost some of my memories, I was sure of it. I’ll wait for you downstairs,” he said, turning away from me. I reached for him. “Do you not want me?” I asked. He froze. He slowly took my face in his hands. “Thea, I’ve never wanted anyone like I want you. I just wish you could look into my eyes and say the same thing.” “I only want you,” I whispered. He smiled and ran his fingers through my hair. He shook his head and pulled me back into his arms. “I’ll tell you what, if in two more months you still feel the same, I’ll marry you again and give you forever.” “Why two months?” I asked. “Seems like the proper time to wait. No one can accuse me of taking advantage of you if you truly fall in love with me.” I pulled away. “You don’t think I truly love you?” “It’s not that,” he said, touching my hair again, “but I need to know you still feel the same.” “But I’m telling you I do.” “No, you’re telling me what think you felt, not what’s in your heart now.” “I love you, Cory. I can feel it.” He looked at my hair. “I’ll be waiting downstairs,” he said, turning away again. He left without another word. As usual, he left me confused and lost with his words. I
