debate topic: dear atheist thinkers, would you pl explain what is stream of consciousness? you may continue ............................................................................................ atheist: consciousness is a result of the firing of the complex network of neurons..and the more complex the network gets the more conscious we are ...thats what differentiates humans from ...other animals theist: you answered, consciousness is a result of the firing of the complex network of neurons..and the more complex the network gets the more conscious we are ...thats what differentiates humans from ...other animals. well, according to you (as an atheist as well?) consciousness is complex neural network. this neural network is material base of consciousness, if you agree it sounds pretty nice. now tell me do you think, consciousness and material based neural network are two different things? or identified with the same thing? atheist: stream of consciousness occurs in early Atheistic Buddhist scriptures. The Yogachara school of Mahayana Buddhism developed the idea into a thorough theory of mind. Stream of consciousness means the flow of thoughts in the mind. The full range of thoughts that one can be aware of can form the content of this stream. It has been also criticized as illusion. It is an idea invented by atheists and therefore can not be in any way, used to justify validity of God. atheist: complex neural network with sustained evolution LEADS to consciousness consciousness is not a entity in itself.. atheist: consciousness and neural network are the same thing. if not, then try staying awake after hitting your head with a rock. theist: you kindly talked too much. i knew little of history of philosophy as i am a student of philosophy. so many schools of thoughts had tried to/ explained what is consciousness all about. .. however, as you said, consciousness and neural network are the same thing so youthink neural network is some spiritual thingy if we assume consciousness is that sort of? ahteist: consciousness and neural networks...neither are spiritual..going by the scientific view point theist: you think there is no mind or ego at all within us. every thing is only physical substances, life is not conscious but serial bio-chemical interaction, to say more fundamentally eveything is proton electron sub-atomic waves particles. is that for sure?... ... .going by the scientific view point scientific view of a owner, right? senses? the owner is a subjective mind. conscious mind. atheist: Yeah! exactly my friend! it seems hard to digest but if you give a deep scientific thought into...it actually is...you just need to think a little deep and broad...ego and all human instincts are all a result of this.. scientific views are not built on random thoughts ...like religious thoughts..they are built on logic...somethin that we didnt invent...but is a part of nature So its not any owners...it belongs to the subject,..to logic By subject...I mean science itself theist: i hope we are reaching the finest point now,.. let me share my thought in this connection. i dont know if are a married person, say for example you are a married person and a blessed father of a beautiful daughter. Milind is a married person and a father. if we consider Milind at his material (neural network/bio-chemical interaction/sub-atomic waves-particles) level, we wont be able to find out a father-Milind. since this fratherness of Milind is phenomenological. its of another existence, another reality, a social phenomenon. fahterness cant be identified/equalized with neural networking. in where existing this social phenomenon? .. same to consciousness, to subjectivity, same to ego, to life we are living.. atheist: Fatherness can be identified with neural networking. Our neural networks signal us not to marry 9 year old girls, which points that we are fatherly to little children. but I dont expect a christian or muslim to understand it. you know why.. theist: Fatherness can be identified with neural networking. Our neural networks signal us not to marry 9 year old girls, which points that we are fatherly to little children. but I dont expect a christian or muslim to understand it. you know why. // i think this is my failure not able to make you understand what i am trying to mean. end of the story. peace. atheist: the fact that Im a father in the analogy (Im not married though :D) is a part of the memory which is created at the moment I become a father...any serious damage to my brain could make me forget about my family ...and in fact about my self..this would lead us to conclude that if the neural network is damaged we loose memory ..and in severe cases consciousnes..so consciousness is nothing more than a neural network atheist: beating about the bush, here and there around the materialistic cliche .
