did you know that owner surrenders are the first to be euthanized in shelters because there is no required hold period for them? did you know that they can smell the fear and death in the shelter? did you know that if they are not immediately euthanized, they will most likely be too terrified to be adoptable? even though you didnt have time for them, they will miss you. they will wonder what they did wrong. they will sit and wait for you to come back for them. even though they have been betrayed by you, they are loyal and loving and committed you to until the end of their lives. which for most, will come too soon. dont you owe the same to them? today was kill day in many animal shelters all over the world. tomorrow and the day after, will be as well. every year, 2.7 million healthy and adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters. one every 11 seconds. as I scroll through the fb newsfeed, their pleading eyes and their sweet faces break my heart. Godspeed to all of the lives lost today. I hope you somehow know that we were trying and that you were loved.
