disabled digging I have broken my back but was a seriously disabled person before my back injury. I see that a lot of people are having problems with digging and bending. Let me tell you what I do. I have told people on this site before. I have two sheets of poly-carbonate sheets does not matter what thickness they are as long as they don’t have big holes in them. you can get/buy them for any conservative company and they should give you for free. If not go to your local tip there will be many there. I never buy them I take them a bit of veg whey they have grown. They will last a good few years if you look after them. not only does it stop you from getting muddy and wet but helps which in turn makes you want to appreciate the work you have done and with no pain at the end of it. Here is what you do. You first of all put the two polys down in a line then you dig one side either kneeling or sat down, me personally lay down and prop my head up with one hand as it’s all my spine that has a problem. I have a small hand fork and a large one, I dig with the small one and then I use the big one if the weeds go deep. Once I have worked down one sit of the poly I then take the one that I put down first and move it in front of the other one then I hutch along to the next one. If needs be I do the same again until ni have done my row. After I have done the first row, I taken the sheets again and leaving four feet un- dug and i place them down again and do exactly the same. That will leave me with 1 dug area. Then 2 foot of crushed weeds, then 2 foot of dug area again. Eventually you will have all your rows dug or even planted if you plant them up whilst digging. The 2 feet that has crushed weeds will be your walk way or weeding path to put your sheets down again later. The following your you will do exactly the same only this time you will dig the crushed weeds area meaning that in 2 years you will have dug your allotment from top to bottom. In the first year when you have a 2 foot of crushed weeds,. I go over it with my Mantis tiller and just go over the weeds to keep them at bay. The other consolation is that in the second year your weeds will come up easily because they are have small roots due to you digging the first row. If you don’t want to do this you could always buy a Mantis tiller and use that. I have just bought a new one but they are pricey. But you can always sell the old one as I am doing and then it’s not such a big blow on your wallet. Hope this helps. I am at the moment building a weeding bed that they sell in the states for £10k This is the mantis tiller https://youtube/watch?v=LE3FbL9Rfrw
