dont think im stepping on any toes here - but we were asked a few weeks ago to pen liner notes for the forthcoming Rob Clarke and the Wooltones debut full length.....initial drafts (the version you wont see) goes like this..... On the banks of the Mersey delta there’s a buzz. Hidden away from the prying ears of the London-centric music press a new sound is shaping the Scouse-a-delic landscape. Tucked away in his secret studio lair producer Fran Ashcroft has heard those sounds, like Messrs White and Watson he’s old school when it comes to spotting dandified nuggets that drive dansette’s delirious. Through his cans the sound he hears has been fermented in a timeless song craft that digs deep into pop’s rich past blending skiffle, 60’s beat cool and sunny psychedelics. Through its kaleidoscopic haze and subtle west coast vibes the trademark jangle of the Byrds take flight with the garage purr of Wimple Winch. For here there’s a buttoned down authentic vintage swagger oozing ear candy aplenty that suggests its authors have been smoking sounds from another age whilst echoing to a more recent memory to recall the Stairs, the Coral and the Stone Roses. They are known as Rob Clarke and the Wooltones and this cool cookie is their 10 track debuting full length ‘the world of the Wooltones’. And while you swoon in the aisles to the sounds permeating from the grooves just a little something to have you sitting up and paying attention - the natural successors of the La’s perhaps. Discuss. Enjoy.
