eDistrict services have been introduced in Tirupattur taluk of Vellore district under the National eGovernance plan. Launching the service at Sahaj Common Service Centre located in Bommikuppam panchayat in Tirupattur taluk, Health Minister K.C Veeramani said services rendered by the Revenue Department, such as issuance of certificates on community, income, nativity and certificates given to first graduates of a family, destitute women and widow etc., could be accessed through Common Service Centres. The programme would initially cover 25 villages in Tirupattur and Jolarpet firkas. Common Service Centres that provide these services would be operated from 12 places such as Nagar, Ponneri Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society, Kathirimangalam Yelagiri, Chinna Samuthiram, Kaakkanampalaym, Vengalapuram and Somanayakkanpatti. Presiding over the function, Collector P. Sankar said villagers need not go to government offices for availing themselves of these services. “We are planning to extend the programme to cover services rendered by Social Welfare Department such as marriage assistance for women and girl children assistance programme, etc. We have issued instructions to officials to ensure that people who apply through these centres get certificates within three days of submitting the application,” he said. Mr.Veeramani gave away certificates to seven persons immediately after accepting their applications at the Common Service Centre, to mark the launch of the programme. Vinod Kuriakose, State Manager of SAHAJ, the eGovernance implementing agency, said SAHAJ has 242 common service centres in Tamil Nadu and this initiative aims at taking government services straight to villages. District Manager V.Barathiraja said village level entrepreneurs had been trained for introducing the services online. Sub-Collector, Tirupattur, Shilpa Prabakar, Members of Legislative Assembly K.G Ramesh (Tirupattur), K.V Sampathkumar (Vaniyambadi) and Chairperson of District Panchayat Leela Subramaniyan were present.
