early in the morning yesterday, my Aunt Marie passed. Shed been diagnosed with cancer less than two weeks earlier. She is my mothers only living relative of their generation. My aunt lived a full and active life and she did it her way. She raised three kids, camped, traveled, and was active for decades as a baritone with the Sweet Adelines. She lived most of her life in Port Neches, Texas. I didnt get to see her very much but I loved her deeply. She was the one person I could talk to about certain crucial things. When Mike and I married, we took a 3-week motorcycle meander through North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia.... taking three days to spend with Aunt Marie. She was the only family member I saw during that time, on my side of the family. Im so glad we did that. Distance and lack of funds kept me from visiting but not calling. I wish I had called more often. Im sorry she isnt there for me to talk to, but Im ok, no condolences needed. I just wanted to recognize that she was an independent spirit and I loved her. If you wish to lift anyone up, lift up her children and my mother because they are the ones that have a big hole left where Aunt Marie used to reside. Singing loud and free, Aunt Marie!
