every time I say I love you to andrew, he responds with mm-hmm. - TopicsExpress

every time I say I love you to andrew, he responds with mm-hmm. always has. for as long as I can remember. at first it kind of bothered me, but awhile ago I came to realize that, like all of us, he has his own language. he says I love you prolifically, just not in conventional language. as I was pondering that last night, I realized the fact that we all really speak different languages, and not just when it comes to intimate expressions. we all speak different everyday language. Im beginning to wonder about the tower of babel and the true scope of what really happened there. there have been so many cases in my life when Ive been taking to people and I may as well have been speaking a different language. the same had often been true when I listen to other people. there is a huge language divide among all of us that affects even those who speak the same conventional languages. to build bridges, its necessary to learn others languages, to understand what others are saying. it takes work and can be overwhelming at times, but I want to make a commitment to do just that. I truly believe that so many of our interpersonal and social problems stem from this language barrier and our ignorance of it. we need listeners.
