eyf.wfd.ext.coe.int/ Dear Sir or Madam, Further to your interest in participating in the World Forum for Democracy 2014, you are kindly invited to propose and discuss topics for the Forum’s “unconferences”. Besides the labs and plenary sessions that are known from the WFD 2013, the World Forum for Democracy 2014 will for the first time include a number of “unconferences” in its programme. These are participant-driven meetings whose concrete agenda is created by the attendees on an online platform before the meeting. The unconferences will enable spontaneous discussions, as well as fresh ideas and new alliances to emerge. They may cover all kinds of issues from education to migration, democracy in the digital age, consultation processes to eligibility of political candidates, freedom of expression, the transformation of the political system etc. The topics of these unconferences will be debated and voted upon by the public on an online platform which will open at 1 September. Anyone who wants to initiate a discussion on a topic can claim a time and a space. The voting for topics will take place at the end of September. The month of October should be used to prepare the unconferences and determine their format. Unconferences feature open discussions rather than having a single speaker at the front of the room giving a talk, although any format is permitted. The proposers of the selected unconferences will be invited to the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg and are responsible for organizing the unconference session on 4 November. Their expenses will be covered by the Council of Europe. Role of unconference proposers: The person, whose proposal for an unconference topic is selected, will be responsible for the following: - Propose a format for the unconference and engage with an online exchange with Forum participants on the content and methodology - Moderate the unconference session during the Forum (the Council of Europe will provide a meeting room, simultaneous interpretation English/French and possibly other languages, video projector/computer with Internet, other material if necessary and possible). - Organise the preparation of an A0 poster with the outcome of the unconference - Submit a summary of the discussion during the unconferences to the WFD Secretariat The online platform for proposing and discussing topics for the unconferences will open on 1 September at eyf.wfd.ext.coe.int/. You are welcome to disseminate the information in your respective networks. We are looking forward to your suggestions and ideas. With kind regards, The World Forum for Democracy Secretariat
