feeling very discouraged today. I stopped in the mayors office today and asked how the budget was progressing. I had gone before the budget committee to ask that they give the sheriffs dept money to 1. train and designate an animal control officer in grainger county. 2. contract with Jefferson county to have two pens available for grainger county officer to bring in animals who need to be held such as court cases or bite cases etc. where animal can be evaluated and cared for until a decision is made on what can be done. 3. a protocol sheet for all county law enforcement and EMTs to have for what should happen in cases involving animals. (such as when health dept has to be called and when wildlife officer has to be called, etc) I found out today that animal control funds will NOT be included in the sheriffs dept budget. was told to try again next year and maybe they will have the money to fund it. GCHS works hard to make our county better for pets and people. We provide all sorts of services at no or low cost to benefit our county. All volunteer with no paid employees we spend countless hours of our own time and often spending money out of our own pocket to help animals in need and the people who have them dumped off on them. Your donations keep us going. you help us help them. But there are some serious areas we cannot help in. we foster in our homes. we need law enforcement involved when it comes to aggressive animal situations, hoarding cases, criminal negligent and abuse cases, animal bite cases. we NEED basic animal control in our county. Most importantly, training of an animal control officer. I am just so disappointed that our elected commission has once again said no to animal control in Grainger county. No funds available this year for animal control. Wow. I have seen them give money to all kinds of things. It is not that I am against spending tax payers money to help with things like stopping littering in the county. but maybe it would be better spent to stop litters in the county. Good grief folks. I am just really discouraged.
