#firstworldproblems #thisisbroken The continuing saga of the name change paper chase for those who wish to suffer along with me, read on. American Express (God rest their soul) at first phone call said they must mail a name change form to the address on file which I must complete, attach my marriage certificate and fax it back. (FAX? Who uses fax any more?) So I did. Using a free online fax service. When attempting to use the (former name) card, the PIN issued was invalid. I call to inquire. Apparently a system glitch sent the same invalid PIN to a number of customers. We sorted out my proper PIN and he asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I asked if he could change my name on my account and issue a new card? He: I see the name change request documents here but the system wont allow me to reissue a card without seeing official identification in your new name. Your marriage certificate only shows your former name. ***Face palm*** Me: Youre saying that my legal reason for changing my name (marriage) has been documented but thats not enough? He: Yes, it doesnt make sense to me either, but if you can fax me a copy of your drivers license in your new name I can make the change. Just download a name change request form... (he didnt have to mail it... its always been available online... ) Dear Lord, please save us from the bureaucrats whove abandoned government jobs and taken up residence in the AMEX policy department.
