found this one... have notice this in NSW DRIVING a few more minutes for a Big Mac fix could save up to 10 per cent off the price of a burger. And extras such as fries and a sundae can also be cheaper. A Herald Sun survey of 10 McDonalds outlets across Melbourne found prices for the chains flagship burger varied from $4.50 to $4.95. Chadstones Dandenong Rd outlet was among the most expensive, but the cheapest included Burwood, about 10 minutes drive away. Two restaurants in Bourke St and another at Melbourne airport also charged the highest price. Customers at McDonalds Swanston St outlet yesterday labelled the price differences a rip-off. I didnt know, I thought they were all stock standard, 18-year-old Katie Dunne said. Its a rip-off to be honest. New Zealand tourist David Kilburn, 47, was also shocked at the variation. Im really surprised, Mr Kilburn said. Its ridiculous. It never occurred to me. Among other items, the price of a medium Big Mac meal differed by up to $1, while a large fries cost as much as 45c extra. The price of a large sundae varied by almost a fifth or 50c. A McDonalds Australia spokeswoman said 70 per cent of stores were operated by franchisees who, as required by law, were able to set food prices based on their situation. Factors included trading hours, power costs, where they operated and service options such as a drive-through. Each McDonalds restaurant has a unique set of characteristics that can impact on recommended pricing levels, the spokeswoman said. She said McDonalds remained a cheap meal option. McDonalds Australia will always offer great value to customers and has always set recommended pricing levels for its company-owned restaurants, she said.
