from Mike Haseler Scottish Climate & Energy Forum For those of you who do not know me, I am the Chairman of the Scottish Climate & Energy Forum, I am the former Scottish UKIP spokesman on energy (but left the party), and perhaps most relevant is that I used to work in wind and was an engineering manager in a factory responsible for all the electrics. So, Im in a very good place to judge this letter in the Press and Journal and reading it I am very confident that John Swinney misled the Scottish parliament. It was not a faulty relay, and wind clearly was a very significant factor and given the evidence available I would say it was very likely to have been the main cause. This is in stark contrast to his own statement where he clearly says wind played no part. Below is my own press release. However with UKIP neck and neck with the Tories in Scotland, Im only a small player. But in case it is not obvious, coming as it does just before the MEP elections with UKIP neck and neck with the Tories, and just before the referendum with energy being a key issue this should be huge. Theres more information on my blog scotip.wordpress Mike Haseler BSc. MBA Press Release John Swinney Misled Parliament - calls for him to resign After power outage affecting 200,000 homes in Scotland, it now appears that John Swinney misled parliament on a key government policy and a mainstay of the case for independence there are calls for him to resign. On the 16th April 2014 there was a widely reported power outage of 200,000 homes in the North of Scotland. In parliament on the 22nd of April the responsible minister (John Swinney) made a statement blaming a faulty relay: Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution discovered a faulty electronic relay at its Knocknagael substation, which is near Inverness. It is believed that the relay malfunctioned just before the outage last Wednesday. He also explicitly ruled out any connection to the unusually windy condition prevailing at the time of the fault: I am absolutely certain that it [the windy conditions] was not a contributing factor. Mr Johnstone is free to ask whatever questions he wishes, but I would think that what I said to the Parliament in my original answerthat Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution discovered a faulty electronic relay at its Knocknagael substation, which is near Invernesswould have been enough reassurance for him. However a letter from Andrew Mackay an electrical engineer in the Press and Journal now clearly contradicts this statement by John Swinney. Speaking on the matter Mike Haseler Chairman of the Scottish Climate & Energy Forum & author of the blog Scottish Independent People said: Mr Swinney has clearly misled parliament. According to this electrical engineer, it was not a faulty relay as he stated but was instead very likely due to unusually strong winds that night. The Scottish government policy of pushing ahead with wind without suitable backup is criminally negligent. They have denied this but have pushed ahead all the same. With the independence vote bearing down on us and energy being the key plank of the SNP independence this is a very serious matter and need urgent investigation.
