from Native Songbird Care & Conservation: This is a Downy Woodpecker. She is recovering from severe head trauma. She was delivered to our friends at Sonoma Veterinary Clinic on Friday, November 22. Dr. Rosner provided excellent interim care and transferred the woodpecker to NSCC the following day. She has received supportive care and medication for pain and inflammation. Her injuries affected her ability to control her head and body and she was unable to eat on her own. We have been assist-feeding her until today. As you will see in the video, this beautiful little woodpecker is making wonderful progress and beginning to eat on her own. Were very optimistic for her full recovery.
