from Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Cebu ( Pia Cebu Infocen) September 9 a Non-working Holiday in #Cebu Cebu will commemorate the 135th Birth Anniversary of the late President Sergio Osmena Sr. Osmeña Day is celebrated in honor of Don Sergio Osmeña, a #Cebuano who spent 42 years in public service. He began serving in 1904. At the age of 25, he became Cebu’s youngest governor. Four years later, he became speaker of the First Philippine Assembly, then Senator and was elected Vice-President in 1935. Don Sergio assumed the presidency in 1944 until 1946, following the death of President Manuel Quezon. Former President Osmeña was one of the two Visayan leaders to become the chief executive of the Philippine Republic while the other one was Carlos Garcia of Bohol. By virtue of Republic Act (RA) 6953, September 9 or Osmeña Day was declared a non-working holiday in Cebu City, Cebu Province and its component cities, signed into law by the late former President Corazon Aquino in 1990.
