DeVault featured July 27 at MAC MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Morgantown Poets will be holding its annual fundraiser on Saturday, July 27 from 3-5pm at the Monongalia Arts Center (MAC) with readings by West Virginia authors Kirk Judd, Amber Decker, and William F. DeVault. Shields Demesne Winery of Spraggs, Pennsylvania, will also be on hand for wine tasting. Admission is $5 per person. Kirk Judd has performed poetry across West Virginia for the past 30 years. The author is internationally known for his performance work combining poetry and old time music. He is the author of two collections of poetry, Field of Vision and Tao-Billy, and coeditor of the widely acclaimed anthology, Wild, Sweet Notes – 50 Years of West Virginia Poetry 1950 – 1999. A founding member of Allegheny Echoes, Inc., Judd has presented his original poetry with Allegheny Echoes staff members and musicians on the BBC and across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Judd was also a member of the Appalachian Literary League and a former president of West Virginia Writers, Inc. Amber Decker is the author of the poetry collections Sweet Relish and Lost Girls. Her poetry has appeared in Exquisite Corpse, Zygote In My Coffee, Arsenic Lobster, Contemporary American Voices and others. In 2011, she placed first in the 14th annual Poetry Superhighway poetry contest and was invited to serve as one of three judges during the contest’s 15th year. She has been nominated twice for Best of the Net and once for the Pushcart Prize. Currently, Amber is an undergraduate student majoring in English literature and a proud member of West Virginia Writers, Inc. A graduate of Morgantown High School, William F. DeVault was named the “Romantic Poet of the Internet” by Yahoo in 1996. His poetry collections include The Morgantown Suite Poems, The Compleat Panther Cycles, loveaddict, Ronin in the Temple of Aphrodite, and (with Morgantown poet Daniel S. McTaggart) Psalms of the Monster River Cult. DeVault also produced and hosted the poetry podcast From Out of the City. Public parking is available near the MAC in the parking garage at the corner of Pleasant and Chestnut Streets and at the city lot behind 142 High Street (enter off Spruce). The MAC is accessible to individuals with special mobility requirements; schedule ahead at least two days prior to the event by calling 304-292-3325, or write to info@monartscenter. Morgantown Poets is an informal not-for-profit, all-volunteer community group that meets 7-9 p.m. the third Thursday each month at the MAC, providing literary enthusiasts in north-central West Virginia the opportunity to express themselves, share their work, network, and to connect up-and-coming writers with more established authors.
