(from a comment I left in another thread, reposting here to make it a full article) Here are the facts of the matter: Russian operatives, while in regular telephone communication with Russian government intelligence agencies, while role-playing as Ukrainian separatists, shot down a civilian airliner (probably due to incompetence and an utter lack of interest in IFF). They shot it down using restricted-access to-be-owned-by-states-only illegally imported high altitude military missiles that were supplied over the border by the Russian government, and then said missile launchers were spirited back over the border back into Russia when the Russian government realized what had happened These Russian government directed operatives then doctored the debris field, are preventing the international aviation inspectors from processing the wreckage, have stolen the bodies from their families, and now are looting the wallets of the dead. Such brave men. And now social media has filled full of Russian apologists who are blaming everyone else: the Ukrainians, the EU, the US, the West, everyone except for the government of Russia. And the blame is usually expressed in extremely base terms. In the last few days, via Google Translate, Ive learned so many Russian insults that translate into scatalogical terms. Boring. And also so many of the angry apologetics are infused with queer hatred. What do I see? I see a culture and a government that lacks the bravery or the intellect to admit to and own its mistakes. What are they afraid of?
