from dear friend Paul Murphy: OMG. Just yesterday late afternoon a new grassroots organization to Save our Symphony Atlanta went online and they already have more than 4500 likes!!! This overwhelming show of support is an incredible shot in the arm for the Musicians of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. We want nothing more than be performing together again and bringing our music to our community and beyond. One week ago we were locked out despite over 8 months of negotiations in which the Musicians tried everything possible to avert the very disaster we find ourselves in...again. This is two short years after we accepted a 15% cut in wages, a 10 week furlough, and cut our number of Musicians by 7. Last weekend we offered to continue negotiations beyond the contract expiration to try and hammer out a deal; ASO management NEVER EVEN RESPONDED to our plea, despite the fact that 3 other American orchestras in the last month have used this process and all successfully avoided a work stoppage. The Musicians are without any salary and our medical insurance will be cut of in two weeks. And Atlanta is without music. PLEASE join this new group; please check out the ATLSymphonyMusicians Facebook page and our website at atlsymphonymusicians; please come join us on the picket line! The support from passerbys has been incredible and we invite you to join us. The Musicians of the ASO are resolute that the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra must maintain the high artistic standards we have spent the last 70 years honing and we are confident that the citizens of Atlanta want to keep the world class orchestra that has brought home 27 Grammys...
