WE HAVE INVITED ALL OF THE OTHER STATE INDEPENDANTS TO SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS ON WHAT HAS REALLY HAPPENED TO QUEENSLAND POLITICS AND LOOK FORWARD TO POSTING THEM SHORTLY... When it comes to looking for culprits for what went wrong in the first term of the LNP State Government look no further that the Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney. Politics has two currencies. The first is gossip and the other is the politics of blame. Generally the “trick” if there is one, is to transfer blame after declaring blame, to someone-else, usually the opposition. The worst-case scenario is having to blame a fellow politician from one’s own party if a bureaucrat can’t be found to accept blame. Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has now really run out of all options as regards people who can be blamed for his disastrous decisions as the Minister for Infrastructure Planning and State Development. Whether it has been “call ins” on developments that have dubious merit like the Gold Coast Cruise Ship Terminal or retrospective legislation tacked onto other bills like the Karreman Quarries riverine mining on the Upper Wivenhoe, the Deputy Premier has cast a great grubby shadow over the State. No one region is immune. Jeff Seeney even protects his fellow Minister’s land developments from flood height revisions that everyone else is forced to accept. Extraordinarily he complains when in his own street in his hometown of Monto, he seeks to intervene when a concrete batching plant seeks to expand their business. There are many more examples in between. So when it comes as to who is to blame for the disaster of the future State election here in Queensland, it will be a narrow victory of sorts in the blame stakes for the Deputy Premier. He will be narrowly ahead of the Treasurer Tim Nichols and his flawed asset sales and the Premier Campbell Newman with his “damn you all” approach to policy implementation. The tragedy is that despite the inevitable loss as a one-term government and possibly a public shaming exercise for what has occurred. There is not much more that can be done to the politicians who caused such grief for the public. The injustice is compounded if the Deputy Jeff Seeney loses the election and leaves Parliament he will receive over two hundred thousand dollars year on year in retirement benefits courtesy of the taxpayer. That is not punishment in the public eye for having run a corrupt government. So what can the public do, other than vote these grafters out of government? Maybe it has come time to do forensic investigations of these many flawed decisions and prosecute any politician who has received an unequal benefit. This might go some way to redressing these offensive decisions of the current LNP State Government. Who first? Look no further than the Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney and his appalling record in just two and a half years in Government. The other defeated politicians might not want to endure anything for themselves after watching the Deputy Premier try to defend the indefensible. You can guarantee at that stage there will be no shortage of politicians blaming one another.
