from the instructors notebook: the manner in which a specific movement pattern (a running stride, a swim stroke, an aikido technique, a yoga pose, etc.) works for me is not necessarily the way it will work for someone else. physical movement is dependent on a host of variables: flexibility, range of motion, strength, speed, agility, balance, coordination, timing, endurance, skill, experience. add a partner to the movement sequence and the execution gets further complicated. when i instruct, i never point out superfluous flaws that may simply be attributed to a difference in style. i watch for, and try to correct through positive feedback, incorrect movement patterns that, if repeated, may lead to injury. however, executing something differently from the way that i do it doesnt, by definition, make it wrong. i often glean a new understanding by observing my students *mistakes*.
