MANILA -- Tropical Storm Amang has intensified as it moves towards Eastern Visayas, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday night. In its 11 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said Amang was last spotted 665 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar. It has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gusts of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move west-northwest at 19 kph. Public storm signal number 1 has been raised over Catanduanes and Northern Samar. Residents in these areas, as well as those living in Samar and Leyte, should brace for possible floods and landslides, PAGASA said. PAGASA also said there is a possibility of raising a public storm warning signal over the rest of Bicol Region in the next 6 hours. Amang is expected to be 340 km east northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar by Friday evening, and 120 km east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte by Saturday evening. It is expected to be near the Mt. Province by Sunday evening.
