fyi...Eastern Shore Things: In 1928 Gary Cooper and Fay Wray filmed, The First Kiss, a silent film, in Saint Michaels, Maryland. Fay Wray was quite well-known at this time as she had 30 films under her belt and she was making 4x what Cooper was making. Cooper was not so well-known as this was only his fourth film. They would do four films together. In the film Gary Cooper played a waterman, an oysterman. Trivia: While making the film, Fay Wray fell into the Chesapeake and Cooper dove in and rescued her. Also, Fay Wray got married during the filming...in real life. She married Writer John Monk Saunders in an Easton Church...and the Best Man was none other than Mr. Gary Cooper. The film had a shooting budget of $200,000 and it didnt do too well for Paramount as this was the time when the talkies were beginning to get popular. Most of us know Fay Wray as the love interest of King Kong...that film would come along in 1933. And of course, we all remember Gary Cooper in High Noon in 1952. But once upon a time Ms. Fay Wray and Mr. Gary Cooper spent some time on the good ole Eastern Shore.
