geekchiccinema.tumblr gives you a breath of fresh air... This is one of my most-listened-to Maya Jane Coles compositions, the closing track on her EP entitled Don’t Put Me In Your Box. Absolute electronic downtempo-inspired brilliance. This 4 track release is the one that began my experience of being a huge M.J.C. enthusiast. I listened to it and thought, this is so animal and plant kingdom meets technology, without a doubt. So I decided to give it a test, which I had done with other artists, some of them seeming very out of sync with nature footage. I put on a BBC ocean wildlife documentary from my film collection and muted the sound, then played Don’t Put Me In Your Box from beginning to end, and all the fluid motions of the whales, sharks, fish, dolphins, and sea plants seemed to be in perfect rhythm and vibe with Maya’s grooves. That was when I was like, this girl speaks my lingo to the core. Cool blue, if ya know what I mean. So this track is actually 4:26 in length and it appears this video is only half that, perhaps intended as a preview for the song. However, I love the video footage they’ve put to it, which has a very dark mysterious but childlike feel with paper snowflakes. Reminds of silhouette puppet animator Lotte Reiniger, who has been a big inspiration to my art, meets the original 50’s/60’s The Twilight Zone. Speaking of Miss Reiniger, I’ll have to share some of her work soon. But for now, “You’re my remedy…” Joanne Stclair, check it. https://youtube/watch?v=p5Jhp7rg2Bk
