Report on RNZ afternoons today by some tory tart, Apparently poverty in NZ isnt that bad, not as bad as say india, where kids get acid thrown in their faces to make them more profitable beggars, people here (mostly) have a roof over their heads (although in some cases its actually a tent or a garage..) and food supposedly, no matter how cold, unhealthy and non nutritious. All the kids turning up in ERs through out the country must be some kind of anomaly ..bread and water, and a cell,and thats all they should expect! They made their lifestyle choices. Right so who pays when the banks stuff it up? Or finance companies crumble and take businesses with them? Who pays for it when a Job Description disappears because of technology? And who profits? Who pays for it when the government sells off assets our parents and grandparents paid for with their taxes, and then ratchet up prices to line the pockets of the already wealthy? Who pays for it when people working their arses off doing unpleasant but necessary jobs get paid minimum wage and cant even meaningfully participate culturally in there own communities? Go out for a meal? Have a beer at the local? See a movie? So apparently poor people should just live in a box, watch TV and turn up to their soul destroying menial underpaid jobs everyday? Who pays for it when the wealthy leverage themselves out with funny money and buy up all the houses, jacking up rents to cover mortgages? and then pay no tax on the profits they make when they sell? No Im afraid you are mistaken, and I heard the bias in your voice, belying the bias in your dodgy stats, your half arsed masters research or what ever the hell it is.... it is the poor and working class who pay for everything, and it is the self entitled wealthy who leech off of society. Leveraging themselves into positions where they profit from the labour of others. Do not delude yourself, no one earns millions a year, that kind of wealth is forcibly extracted.
